As the main body of the skeleton oil seal, rubber is particularly important in the selection, which directly affects the performance and working state of the skeleton oil seal, and many factors need to be considered when choosing which material to use to make the skeleton oil seal, such as: working temperature, pressure, wire speed, medium and so on. Different rubber processes are not the same, so it is also necessary to consider which production process to use to make the skeleton oil seal, although many mainstream rubber can be used to make the skeleton oil seal (such as: butadiene rubber, acrylic acid, fluorine rubber, silicone rubber, etc.), but in the selection still to follow the following points:
1, the maximum actual temperature of the working environment.
That is, the working environment temperature used by the skeleton oil seal cannot exceed the maximum temperature of the material.
2, the minimum working temperature.
When the temperature is low, the rubber will become hard and brittle, and the resilience will become smaller, and the lip of the oil seal will increase the holding force on the axis and increase the friction. However, after the shaft rotates, the lip of the friction-generated heat skeleton oil seal will gradually return to the original elasticity due to the increase of the holding force. Therefore, the skeleton oil seal can still operate normally under the condition of brittle low temperature of the rubber or lower temperature. The premise is that the shaft speed must be high.
3, the impact of shaft speed on the skeleton oil seal material.
Shaft speed is an important factor for the selection of skeleton oil seal material, because too high shaft speed will generate heat from friction with the lip, when the shaft speed is too fast and the temperature is too high, it will reduce the oil seal's ability to follow the shaft for a while, and the second is that too high temperature will accelerate the aging of the rubber lip and shorten the service life of the skeleton oil seal.

4. Select the oil seal material according to the sealing medium.
Sealing different media need to choose different oil seal materials, one can prevent the rubber components of the media for fouling, and two can prevent the erosion of the media for the oil seal material.
5, select the skeleton oil seal material according to the working state.
According to the working state, the oil seal can be divided into reciprocating oil seal and rotary skeleton oil seal, rotary type is generally used in mechanical shaft seal, reciprocating is generally used in rod seal, and the material selected by different sealing methods is also different.
In fact, when choosing the oil seal material, the above points can not only look at one point, but also consider from many aspects, and choose the appropriate skeleton oil seal material by combining various factors.

The speed of the general skeleton oil seal is related to the shape and pressure of the skeleton oil seal design, the maximum design speed of the general rubber oil seal is about 15 m/s, and the maximum speed of the rotating oil seal of the PTFE lip seal is 30 m/s. In addition, the greater the pressure the oil seal bears when rotating, the corresponding rotating speed will be reduced. The higher or lower the temperature will also affect the rotation speed and life of the oil seal.
