The radiation resistance of rubber is one of the worse elastomers. Type 26 rubber shows crosslinking effect after radiation, while type 23 rubber shows cracking effect. The results showed that the properties of 246 rubber changed dramatically under the radiation dose of 5 × 107 Lun in air. The hardness increased by 1 ~ 3 degrees, the strength decreased by less than 20%, and the elongation decreased by 30% ~ 50% under the condition of 1 × 107 Lun. Therefore, it is generally considered that 246 rubber can withstand 1 × 107 Lun, and the limit is 5 × 107 Lun.
From the above analysis, it can be seen that rubber skeleton oil seal is not suitable for low temperature and radiation conditions, but it is widely used in modern aviation, missile, rocket, space navigation, warship, atomic energy and other advanced technologies as well as automobile, shipbuilding, chemistry, petroleum, telecommunication, instrument, machinery and other industrial fields.
When rubber sealing ring is used for engine sealing, it can work at 200 ℃ ~ 250 ℃ for a long time, and work at 300 ℃ for a short time. Its working life is the same as that of engine repair, up to 1000 ~ 5000 flight hours (5 ~ 10 years)
